Role as Director & CEO, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh :


As Director, my vision was to develop AIIMS Rishikesh as a world class health care & research centre; East of Suez; with integrated mind and body medicine, as one of its components. AIIMS Rishikesh is situated at Holi place Rishikesh, Uttarakhand near many hill stations in numerous remote villages. In order to develop the propagation of health care, I have started outreach services in various remote places of Uttarakhand.   


To make AIIMS Rishikesh hub of teaching & training: following steps have been initiated: Teaching & Training reforms like:-integrated curriculum, MCQ examination pattern, tech-prone teaching methodology comprising virtual classes, Evidence Based Medicine classes, faculty workshops for MCQ, OSLE, Clinical Ex, Assessment of student and Blue Print were conducted. New courses have been started: MD, MS, MCh, Nursing (M.Sc.), PhD courses & number of diploma courses in various specialty & super specialty departments & 24x7x365 Trauma & Emergency Services started to peopled of Uttarakhand and its neighboring states with average per day OPD is ranging 1800-2000 patients. AYUSH services have also been started at AIIMS Rishikesh. New clinics have been started: Breast, Bronchial Asthma, Diabetes Mellitus, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Hand Clinic, Head & Neck, HepatopancreatoBiliary, Hypertension, Infertility Urology, Movement Disorders, Neonatology, Neurology, Orthopedics were established. Discipline has been enforced to ensure punctuality, Hygiene, Aesthetics, Green Campus initiative have been significantly manifold increased with visible impact. An all round development of the Institute is the ultimate goal. 


Leadership note as Vice Chancellor of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow:

New department/Courses have been started: Cardiac Anaesthesia, Center for Advanced Research, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry,  Clinical Psychology, Digestive Disease Center, Emergency Medicine, Endocrinology, Endocrine Surgery, Gynecological Oncology, Medical Education, Medical Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology, Medical Genetics, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neuro Anesthesia, Nuclear Medicine, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Oncology, Pediatric Orthopedic, Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, Radiation Physics, Reproductive Medicine, Radiological Physics,  Statistics, Thoracic Surgery, Transplantation Critical Care, Transplant Anesthesia, Trauma Surgery, Vascular Surgery. In order to ensure 360 degree excellence, first time in KGMU Institute of Nursing, (B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing & PhD in Nursing), Institute of Paramedical Sciences(Paramedical courses viz Diploma in X-Ray Technician, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician, Diploma in Radiotherapy Technician, Diploma in Optometry, Diploma in Physiotherapy, Diploma in OT Technician, Diploma in Cardiology Technician, Diploma in Dialysis Technician, Diploma in Ct Scan Technician, Diploma in MRI Technician, Diploma in Sanitation & Diploma in Emergency and Trauma Care Technician)and Institute of Skill(Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) and Evidence Based Medicine (EBM)) were established.  As head of Department of Transplantation Surgery, First Organ Transplant was done in KGMU. Second transplant was done within 2 weeks. Social Work: Relief team of King George’s Medical University was sent to Nepal to provide medical facilities to EarthQuake victims. It was appreciated & commended by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh & by Hon’ble Minister for External Affairs, Govt. of India.Discipline has been enforced to ensure punctuality, Hygiene, Aesthetics, green campus initiatives have been significantly manifold increased with visible impact. NATURE OF WORK: Clinical: (1987 to 2008)  In 2600 bedded LokNayak Hospital and in 750 bedded GB Pant Hospital – the hospital of University of Delhi-Maulana Azad medical College, as attending Surgeon providing emergency and elective surgical care free of cost.Organizing a Surgical Oncology clinic twice every week. Research: cell mediated immunity, Dye scattering test for carcinoma esophagus, Lasers, Photodynamic therapy, interstitial Laser Hyperthermia. Teaching: MBBS, MS (postgraduate), and BDS students of University of Delhi. Editor: a) earlier Editor of Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO) and presently Member of Editorial board of Indian Journal of Surgery. b) Editor of three books with multi-author formats on Cancer .

  1. International National Continuing Medical Education Program- an eight day long scientific program as Organizing Secretary in September 1995, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 for.
